Wilhelm Schimmel Pianofortefabrik

Where German tradition meets Brazil.

Founded in 1885, Schimmel is the most awarded German piano in the world. Four generations of the Schimmel family turned a small workshop in Leipzig into Germany's leading piano manufacturer, today based in Braunschweig — where every instrument is hand-built by specialist craftspeople.

Schimmel builds its Konzert and Classic series pianos exclusively in Braunschweig, in a modern factory opened in 1980. Every instrument is built with exclusive materials, long wood-seasoning cycles and the handwork of master piano builders.

Combining traditional techniques with in-house CAPE technology (Computer Assisted Piano Engineering) ensures millimetre precision in action design, key geometry and soundboard acoustics. Schimmel makes its own components — including keyboards it also supplies to other high-end German manufacturers.

Grupo Bulara is the exclusive importer of Schimmel in Brazil, offering selected retailers the chance to represent the absolute peak of European acoustic piano building.

The patented concept behind the series

Schimmel's great innovation is its patented design concept: transferring, wherever possible, all the tonal characteristics of the K 280 concert grand to the smaller models in the series. From tone 44 to tone 88, the soundboard design and string scale follow the same concert standard — every Konzert piano shares the same sonic identity, varying only in size and projection.

Strategic alliance 2016

In 2016 Schimmel entered a strategic alliance with the Pearl River Piano Group, strengthening production in Braunschweig. The Schimmel family remains an active shareholder, keeping the brand's German soul — and the alliance connects the three piano brands in Grupo Bulara's portfolio.

About the Konzert series: every model shares Schimmel's patented design concept, developed over 12 years. The action of the uprights was also optimised to approach the repetition response of a grand — something extremely rare in the upright market. Available finishes: polished black, polished white, mahogany, walnut and special Royal Wood versions with selected fine woods.

“Getting behind a great piano is going to pull your ear in new directions and inspires you to express yourself in different ways. This Schimmel K 219 is capable of producing gorgeous, blended texture — an all-around musical triumph.”

Classic Series

The best all-around versatile line. Classic pianos come from the principle that instruments should be as versatile as pianists' demands — from recording studios to conservatoires and the living room.

The design of the Classic grands and of the large C 130 and C 126 uprights is based on the Konzert models. The compact C 121 and C 116, meanwhile, use the traditional patented “small piano without back posts” construction, created by Schimmel back in the 1930s — delivering a broad, warm tone even at reduced dimensions. For the retailer, the Classic line is the category with the highest added value and prestige for customers looking for a genuine German piano with excellent value within the premium segment.
