About the brand

A real piano brand for your digital shop window.

Hailun is not an electronics company that decided to make pianos. It is a manufacturer of acoustic concert pianos with almost four decades of history, awarded in Europe and the United States and present in conservatoires and concert halls worldwide.

The company began as a maker of extremely precise parts for the world's biggest piano brands — before it had its own name, it was already the invisible supplier inside its competitors' instruments. In 1998 the founder bought out the Chinese government's stake to take full control of quality and hiring; in 2000 the assembly plant became a full factory. Today it has more than 40,000 m² of production, 800 employees and 37 senior piano engineers, with Japanese and German lines.

When it developed the digital line, it applied the same standard: the sound samples come from the factory's own concert grands, and the keyboards were designed by people who understand acoustic action.

The result is an instrument that does not compete on price — it competes on argument. And that is exactly what the retailer needs in a category dominated by brands commoditised on marketplaces.

In 2014 Steinway & Sons hired George F. Emerson — Hailun's designer — to design a new Steinway piano. The industry's absolute benchmark went looking for the professional who signs the factory's designs.
